1970s Young Innocent Hooded Matte Jersey Cape

in the 70s a nod was more than that The Edwardian revival of the 60s and 70s was a much more direct nod to the past than the sorts of retro things we see on modern runways. You could find hooded capes that were cut true to the original except the fabric was now very hi-tech. Yeah, it sure is the kind of vibe they always convey in a movie where poor Winona Ryder is having her neck sucked by Gary Oldham but that's okay - the vampire can't bite you unless you're the one who opens the window to let him in. Didn't know that, did you? Yup - it always takes two to tango. The California company Arpeja was responsible for three labels that are familiar to all American girls; Young Edwardian, Organically Grown and Young Innocent. Very much unlike Gunne Sax (a prom dress company that has been successfully sued for violating Asian labor laws... so think twice before you shell out dough for that stuff), Arpeja was for edgy young women who couldn't quite afford things from British designers like Thea Porter and Ossie Clark. A seriously dramatic hooded cape that fastens at the neck with a buried hook and attached neck ties over that, the enormous hood drapes over your shoulders when down and is gathered where it joins the body of the cape- really nice. A powerful outer layer over a floor-length dress in a shocking color. Basically one size fits all, it is 59" long so you want to be at least 5'5" to pull this off. Excellent condition. $210.00
