So many of us are totally clueless when it comes to fabric new and old. Who the hell can tell the difference beteeen that vintage Cacharel Liberty shirt and a new J. Crew one? Isn't all double faced wool the same? You think all velvet is created equally; rayon, cotton and silk, right? Wrong. That's where book knowledge and hands-on experience differ. You cannot really know how much the clothing industry shortchanges the contemporary customer until you have had great vintage stuff in your hands. We're not slamming luxe new companies who use magnificent fabric - we're talking about mainstream chains that sell pure garbage in the guise of "cute" or "affordable". It's all a waste of money, girlfriend. You're either buying brand new Dries Van Noten or vintage Originala... there ain't nothin' in between. Velvet should almost always be silk. It doesn't grab like cotton and it has a liquid vibe like honey that you just cannot find anymore. A stunning black silk velvet coat with huge rabbit collar that looks like chinchilla. Lined in the same black velvet, this is stunning over modern Roland Mouret on the way to Bouchon at the Bellagio. And how great would it be slung over the back of a stool at the baccarat table? Meant to be worn open, this has no closure and is piped in champagne silk satin along the placket. Gorgeous, feels absolutely luscious. Shoot, wear it over your dang birthday suit as a robe. Sized for a modern 8 or small 10, it is 48" long. Excellent condition. sold |
