So many designers of the 60s had a tough time making a graceful transition into the following decades. Peaking in their youth, a lot of them made licensing arrangemets to make money any way they could. But Emanuel Ungaro is one designer who managed to shift effortlessly into the 70s and 80s after coming off of a very Courreges-esque train ride in the 60s. Once working for the space age French house, he went on to make some of the most gorgeous silk pieces that hang on a woman's body like honey that is set on freeze frame. When Giambattista Valli stepped in to become creative director at Ungaro, he chose to embody the spirit of 80s Ungaro and did it quite successfully. Whether it is Valli or Ungaro's hand at this label, the silk pieces will always be fantastic represntations of the name. A watercolor silk crepe de chine in pink, cream and black that comes down dangerously low in front to cross across the tummy and fasten over the left hip. Pleated at the shoulder yoke, the above-the-knee length and windy fabric make this a short dress that isn't tight or clingy and thereby infinitely less self-conscious. Made for the Parallele label, the bust measures 37", shoulder to shoulder 15.5", outer sleeve 24" and length 37.5". Excellent condition. sold |
