Elsa Schiaparelli was an artiste extraordinaire whose creative talent was so enormous that Chanel was known to make catty remarks about her when Coco always seemed to think she was above everyone. Her collaborations with artists like Salvador Dali and Man Ray elevated her craft to a true art indeed. Designing bags for Whiting and Davis was really the precursor to today's Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton or yesterday's Bonnie Cashin for Coach. You take a venerable name and put some young visionary behind it and suddenly your product has cachet like never before. Oh so very Whitiing and Davis silver mesh with a champagne silk lining, it is shaped like a pouch with a round lid and bottom and draped metal in shiny folds. 6" high by about 10" around with a single 4" mesh handle. Signed on the interior pocket silk, "Schiaparelli Made by Whiting and Davis Co.", it is in excellent condition with the exception of minor allover darkening of the silver allover. It may also be that this bag was gold and silver mesh in an animal pattern and has faded to slight obscurity. $510.00
