Back in the 40s and 50s, it took money to travel. American Airlines wasn't sending people discount e-mails with offers of $45 round trip tickets to San Francisco. So the people that were flying had a sort of respect for the whole airport routine. "Comfortable clothing" in those days did not mean warm-up suits and sneakers - people wore nice clothes and airport people watching was fun. So why not go back a few decades and travel in style? Maybe a fabulous Michaerl Kors cashmere coat with a vintage Roberta di Camerino train case. Pretend you're Pat McGrath and load it with makeup, perfume and your iPod or use it as a hip carry-on, loaded with the latest copy of Vanity Fair and a bag of tamari-roasted almonds to snack on. Black leather with cinnamon soprarizzo velvet, the inside of the lid is outfitted with a full-sized mirror and there is a multi-bottle holder with adjustable straps. A little line of airplane liquor bottles, maybe? Or an array of small perfume bottles from Penhaligon's in London? Dated 1977 and made in Italy, it measures 12.5" wide by 8" high and 8.5" deep. Excellent condition but the original key is long gone, and this does not affect the ability to open or close the spring latches. $640.00 |
