Alencon is a type of French lace that is sometimes referred to as "reembroidered" and it doesn't take a textile expert to understand why. Each flower is handstitched with a raised buttonhole stitch around the edges so it is raised and intensely textured - nothing like the ultrafeminine bobbin laces you see in doilies. Sometimes it is hard for us to understand what it takes to make that much fabric BY HAND because we live in a world where everything is made by machine. How quaint it may seem but honey, one of the girls has been embroidering an entire pair of jeans here at the office and that is hard freaking work! Pale pink alencon lace from shoulder to toe in the most simple gown of cotton lace on a silk crepe foundation. No fussy silhouette to compete with the work of the fabric and soft color. From the scalloped edges on the straps to the edge on the matching bolero jacket, it was understood that the lace shouldn't trim the dress but be the dress. Darted through the bust, it has a fitted waist and very slim hips that flare out into a waved hem. The jacket has zippers at the end of the sleeves so you get the perfect tight fit and they come down long anough to cover the back of the hand a bit. Backed in the exact same shade of pink silk crepe, this is a beautiful, simple and modern dress. A simple pear shaped diamond in the hollow of your throat and silk slingbacks in a pale pale celadon. Bust measures 34", waist 26", hips 34" and length 57". Jacket has a shoulder span of 154.5", sleeve length 23.5" and length 13.5". Excellent condition. $985.00 |
