1930s Robert Piguet Dramatic Black Wool Coat

the glamorous thirties

enoki seal of approval

The 1930s were the decade of amazing design, with the 1960s running parallel in many respects. Think of old Hollywood glamour - Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Dolores del Rio and Cedric Gibbons and all the industrial design that poured out, from Gilbert Rohde to Heywood Wakefield. But not just any old piece of clothing from that time is going to cut it for us - it has to be high style and Robert Piguet will never be an exception. The first house where Christian Dior was employed, Piguet was the man who created the fragrance, Fracas and had an extraordinary eye for talent. A great, dramatic black wool coat with a tubular collar and a very wide lapel that curls back into itself like the petals of a flower. Double breasted and shaped like an hourglass, the skirt is gently gathered along the waist and the back is no less stunning. A deep vertical pleat from nape to waist, ended by the horizontal band of the belt that runs across the small of your back. Covered buttons and diaginally set pockets, this coat is a rare piece from a prominent historical Parisian couture house that has long enjoyed a reputation for being absolutely cutting edge in its day. Lined in black silk crepe, the bust meassures 38", shoulder to shoulder 18", outer sleeve 26", waist 28" and length 49.5". Ideal for a modern 10, it is not often that we find a piece of this quality, this vintage, in this size. It has everything going for it, including condition - which is excellent with the exception of some minor dye fade to the lining. $3100.00
