After the stunning body of work that Vionnet left behind in the 30s, the 40s were a time when women really had a stronghold on the fashion world. Claire McCardell, Adele Simpson, Mollie Parnis and a young Bonnie Cashin along with photographer Louise Dahl-Wolfe would change the way the world viewed women in their clothing. Not only presented in a much more natural light, literally, but now in clothing that was less constrictive - less obviously designed than would seem if a man had a hand in it, the late 40s were the catalyst that set the next 30 years in motion. A strapless, and you will also notice completely easy, cotton plaid sundress from Mollie Parnis. All you do is step in and button it up the front and slide into a pair of very flat sandals. The bodice is boned for support, and the skirt a true circle skirt, there are pockets at each hip and a darling portrait collared jacket, trimmed in navy cotton velvet, that floats over the dress when you feel a little modest. It is one of those things that you can see, even if you haven't read a million back issues of vintage Harper's Bazaar, on those fabulous models that are now older than your Mom. A matching belt encircles your waist. Bust measures 34", waist 26" and length from bust to hem is 42". Excellent, if not flawless, condition. $445.00 |
