Much as anyone tries, they cannot dictate that the classic black wool dress (or two or three or four) does not deserve a place of prominence in your closet. But not any black dress will do just any old pair of jeans will do. Cashmere knits are all fine and well but they can be quite static cling-y in the dead of winter and they don't do much for even the best of bodies. Who the hell wants a dress that is inching its way up your tights, gathering in rolls somewhere between your hips and waist? Do you think that Babe Paley would have been tugging at an imperfect dress? Please. Babe would have been in Norell with Vivier shoes from dawn 'til dusk and not had to think about anything but a little refresh of "Fatal Apple" lipstick. Norell is the designer you want when you are looking for polish. Because like Babe Paley, Norell was all about perfection. His wool twills were satisfyingly heavy and kept their shape through all the walking, sitting, standing, bending and escalator riding a woman could do. They will never ever look tired - ever. Black wool with an asymmetrical placket, dotted with large - plain - black buttons. Short sleeves, a simple jewel neckline and rolled sash belt, there are welted seam pockets at both hips. Gorgeous with Chanel boots (but please no gap between the top of the boot and your hem - that is so unbelievably tacky), it is unlined. Bust measures 36", shoulder to shoulder 15", outer sleeve 7.5", hips 38" and length 38". Excellent condition. sold |
