Reviving the Norell label without Norman Norell is like doing Bugs Bunny without Mel Blanc. Oh sure, they can find someone who might have a little bit of a clue how to sound like Mel but it won't be Mel and he is exactly what breathed life into that smartass rabbit. Certain designers are irreplaceable - Norell is one of the finest examples. Norell not only created a look but his perspective had a huge part in defining American style. He was polished. Clean. Sophisticated. But still we find new companies reviving old names with clothes that are trying to copy the original ideas. Bring in loud buzzer used on game shows to indicate incorrect answers. The vintage Norell label will continue to be synonymous with that old New York chic and his dresses make it so easy to just throw on shoes and grab a bag and be perfectly done without being overdone.
