1980s North Beach Leather Biker Jacket

forget sturgis baby While the classic biker jacket has been around since motorcycling became hugely popular in the 1920s, it wasn't until Azzedine Alaia designed a sexy version for women in the early 1980s that it became more than a utilitarian garment. Beginning way back when Marlon Brando showed off his double-breasted Schott in "The Wild Ones", the biker jacket as we now know it became a symbol for rebellion and raw sexuality. Following suit, other designers like Norma Kamali and Michael Hoban for North Beach Leather gave us their own curvy interpretations. North Beach's signature use of vivid color and insane applique was really a refreshing change of pace from black. Tangerine goat leather with fuchsia, violet and blue hibiscus tipped with yellow highlights. Channel quilted at the belted waist, it is cut like the original with zipped sleeves and a diagonal placket that can be closed to the neck or worn open. Lined in orange crepe, the hardware is polished silver. Bust measures 36", shoulder to shoulder 16.5", outer sleeve 23.5" waist 29" and length 19". Excellent, if not flawless, condition. sold
