Gorgeous gorgeous Miyake. A designer who studied traditional Japanese textiles in great detail, his collections are marked by an acknowledgement of his country's rich, and long, history. Think about designing your own line without understanding your culture's history? It would be a joke and you'd end up doing Claire McCardell while thinking you were sooo original. What Miyake did was take rural clothing like noragi and turn it into something sophisticated. This layered koshi skirt is reminiscent of more antique hemp or linen things but is a lovely, crinkled heavy cotton. Hinting of ancient zanshi-ori, everything about this is fresh. Beige and grey in a windowpane pattern made by weaving, it is pierced with rag fringe. Below the calf with an elasticated waist, the top layer in front van be tied, pinned or left hanging. Like most Issey pieces, this folds absolutely flat for storage - each garment based on a completely geometric cut but transforming into something soft and organic on the body. Waist measures 24" with a maximum stretch without getting weird of 28". Length 34" - an Issey Small. Excellent, if not flawless, condition. $705.00
