1970s John Kloss Black Jersey Wrap Dress

everyone did the wrap but some did it better John Kloss was part of the new breed of young American designers in the late 60s and early 70s who breathed new life into the word 'simple'. Contemporaries like Scott Barrie, Stephen Burrows and Giorgio di Sant'Angelo were all busy making the new anti-evening gown. For decades, evening wear had been elaborate and complicated which left out all but society women who could afford to buy Norell couture and look right in it. That wasn't the case for a lithe young woman in her late 20s who was looking to be anything but a society woman. John Kloss is all about simple lines with a quirky little inset or pattern that is integral to the dress. Unfortunately, all you ever find of his are nightgowns that you can't wear outside unless you're just plain dumb. This dress in slinky black jersey has a totally open front that wraps like a traditional ballet cardigan that dancers wear over their leotards. Long sleeves are integral to the bodice and it zips up the back for a very smooth fit. This looks perfect unadorned, save for a giant pair of gold hoop earrings and two-tone Marni slingbacks. Absolutely slimming, if it were ever true that black will make you look like you've been at La Costa for a month, it is now. Also bears a Bonwit Teller label, the bust measures 34", waist 26" and length 42.5". Excellent condition. $420.00
