1970s Kenzo Apricot Crepe Swing Dress

swing swing swing Kenzo Takada was one of the first Japanese designers to fuse French techniques with Japanese traditions. While Japanese clothing thinks in angles and flat surfaces, the French side of Kenzo's collection is full of gentle pleats and gathers that require a whole lot of seaming and planning. One of the earliest Kenzo pieces to be found, this apricot wool and cotton crepe dress is from the "Jungle Jap" label dating to the very early 70s. Fitted through the shoulder and clavicle, the pleats unfold to form a loose swing skirt that looks best to some eyes by belting it although this was not the original intention. Short neck ties at either side of the placket and inseam pockets at both hips really looks great with Roger Viver platform pumps for Yves Saint Laurent in brown patent and a stack of Lanvin enamel bangles on one wrist. Sized S by the designer himself, we find it to be best for a tall modern 6 or small 8 so you can take advantage of the full cut. We're showing it with a Bonnie Cashin suede belt, which is not included, but if you must see the darned thing belted... there you go. Length 43" and in excellent condition. sold
