1970s Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Magenta Blanket Coat

LOVE LOVE LOVE castelbajac

one of our very favorite designers

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac is so very French that you would think there were no references to anything but Paris and his own vivid archive of fantasies. Not true. In his vast body of work since the late 1960s, Castelbajac samples everything from all-American Hanna Barbera to classic Hudson Bay blankets. Smart boucle suits rendered in impossible-for-anyone-but-him color combinations, inflatable ponchos and jackets made of stuffed animals, gloves and socks. He plays with proportion, layering and the written word to make clothing that transcends practical and becomes sculpture that is accessible and infinitely wearable. His blanket coats are fast favorites, to wear with wide-legged Dries Van Noten pants and a Goat sweater. Deep magenta with plum stripes and a removable Concord-grape leather lining in the hood. The hood also zips out flat to be a wide yoke that rests on the upper back. Deep pockets at both side seams and a hidden snap closure, this was made for Ko and Co. Sized to fit a wide variety of shapes and heights, the length is 49" but the fit is slightly oversized for everyone. Excellent condition. sold
