Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has been called the "Courreges of the 70s" by Women's Wear Daily and it makes sense, seeing as he designed the Courreges collections for a short spell. But Castelbajac is not a Courreges acolyte. In fact, Castelbajac is no one's acolyte but rather a source of inspiration for everyone from Martin Margiela to Bernhard Willhelm. His pieces run from inflatable vinyl ponchos to coats that could easily be mistaken for Japanese design from the early 70s. Designing for his mother's company Ko and Co from the late 60s until 1975, some of his most iconic silhouettes began with this label. A heavy flax linen coat with flanged seams edged in ivory cotton webbing. A beautiful compliment to vintage Issey Miyake, the notched sides and weighty drape hang flawlessly. Sized to fit a modern 8 to 12, the length is 47" and it folds totally flat for storage. Excellent, if not flawless, condition. $725.00 |
