Most of the big New York department stores had their own labels with talented designers working for little or no glory. At tony Bergdorf Goodman, they had Philip Hulitar, whose style ran more toward bombshell than any other label of the day. His hourglass dresses were knockout glamorous for women who already had serious curves and wanted to emphasize them. A black silk satin evening gown with dramatic flounced hem. Cutouts flank either side of the V neckline and seams ensure curves - not squished flab. The hem is backed in black tulle to hold its shape and this really needs very little work to make it magic.
