1972 Christian Dior Purple Halter Gown and Stole

marc bohan for the house of dior Inside every designer, no matter how well-behaved and dignified he or she might outwardly appear, is a little imp that acts much like a spoiled brat - taunting the other children. This little dress imp speaks to most other designers, "Ya ha - you wish!", and they certainly must. A flirtatious samba halter gown and ruffled stole of purple silk crepe georgette styled after the Thirties. Marc Bohan for Christian Dior- Paris, labelled "Automne-Hiver 1972", which is Fall 1972, numbered 00744. Most people use the term "couture" erroneously, meaning anything designer but couture is a term reserved for items that have been custom-made for a particular woman, although they range anywhere from tailor-made to straight from the atelier of a well-respected house like Dior. Triple layers of Norma Shearer ruffles at the neck, which fastens at the nape and a stole that wraps around the shoulders flanked by ruffle after ruffle on each end. A lovely balance of skin to silk, you have to think Hollywood in its heyday. Silver Etro sandals wth very high, very skinny heels and vintage Neil Lane chandelier earrings are natural partners and this still qualifies as a totally Hollywood dress. As you would expect from a Christian Dior couture piece, the construction is far superior to almost every single modern piece you have in your closet - this is a seriously fabulous piece. Ideally sized for a modern 8 with no larger than a full B cup and no shorter than 5'8" or so, remember this was made for a specific customer so it does not fit into pret-a-porter sizing categories. Excellent condition. sold
