When you think of Courreges, you're thinking fitted wool dresses with welted seams, aintcha? Winter white coats with silver buttons and sculpted belts? Daisy pasties? But you never think slinky evening gowns. Well, it just goes to show you that just when you thought you had every vintage designer down pat, you realize you don't know squat. Courreges is not about welted seams per se. Or about being the first one to popularize the miniskirt (Mary Quant says it was her) - Courreges represents a whole new feeling that made clothing insanely body-conscious and sporty. His models were athletic and tan and his clothes had an enormous range of movement while being, well, shall we say, extremely fitted. He had a way of making wool twill slinky. He was Francoise Hardy. Diane Arbus. Young, hip women who were the antidote to stuffier society ladies that the new youth culture couldn't relate to. A splendid simple baby blue polyamide jersey halter gown with stitching that outlines each breast under the straight neckline. Attached straps go over the head and fasten behind the upper back of the dress and it falls simply to the floor with no slits or adornments. Absolutely breathtaking on a woman with really great tits and slim hips, the color and fit are intense. Bust measures 34" (up to a small C) and length 52", it is in excellent, if not flawless, condition. $1250.00 |
