The modern success of Celine is due almost totally to Michael Kors, and the people instrumental in hiring him as Creative Director (make that former Creative Director). The current affairs of age-old ateliers can have a big influence on the vintage cachet of a piece and Celine is no exception. Starting with their ready to wear collections in the 1960s, their style has always been an understated luxury devoid of trendy gimmicks. Black and white wool and cashmere houndstooth trimmed in black leather, this cloaked coat is gorgeous over a black cashmere turtleneck and black Hermes skirt. Fastens at the collarbone with a gilded and silver clasp, there are deep patch pockets over each hip. Lined in Celine embossed champagne silk crepe de chine, this is a very supple piece and is meant to be worn in place of a jacket. Sized for a modern 6 to small 10, it is 37" long.
