So many of the things we consider to be 'classic' have origins that are firmly grounded in practical use. You think those bright yellow Hunter wellies were just some crazy cuteness conjured up by Marc Jacobs one season? The trench solely by Burberrys? The greatest of all stuff goes back to menswear. Uniforms to be precise. Unfortunately classic also means plentiful so what's a girl to do when wanting something that's going to last but has a twist? She looks back over the past few decades to see who made the very best version. Take the trench. No longer for rain, this three season coat has been done in everything from poplin to clear vinyl. Never a greater rendition than blonde pony hair though. We've offered these from Galanos and Christian Dior in the past - this one no longer has the label but it is made as thoughtfully and carefully as either of those houses. Big spots of coffee and cream on blonde fur all trimmed in dark brown leather. A big lapel that has enough oomph to stay flipped up at the nape and matching leather-edged slide belt, the coat is lined entirely in caramel silk satin with velvet-lined pockets. Still has its I. Magnin label and a furrier label in the pocket, we love this with a brown Beene Bag wool dirndl barely peeking out from the hem and Chie Mihara taupe boots. Bust measures 34", shoulder to shoulder 15.5", outer sleeve 23" and length 43". Excellent, if not flawless, condition. $3150.00 |
