1960s Geoffrey Beene Hot Pink Wool Dress

stand out in the crowd Say you marry a guy who had a rich uncle (an eccentric rich uncle) that left all his money to an art museum. This automatically puts you in very good standing with the board of directors and is an open invite to some fabulous and not so fabulous dinner parties. When the Frida Kahlo exhibit is planned, you delight in the thought of piling on the Spratling jewelry but when something like the Haggadah collection of Minsk is there, well.. it gets kinda dull. It puts you at the table with a bunch of stuffy old folks whose idea of wild clothing is St. John one size too small. But you're an adult now and making waves at black tie affairs is decidedly passe. You are not Edie Sedgwick, darling, and party crashing on methadrine won't score you points like it did in the 60s. No, you gotta talk the talk and walk the walk but you don't have to wear St. John and you don't have to wear black. A charming Geoffrey Beene dress in hot pink twill-woven wool that will shine the spotlight on you in all the right ways. With an Empire waistline and cap sleeves, the placket cuts loose from the dress at the bottom and there are two decorative rhinestone buttons dotting its length. Inverted pleats form a subtle apron in front, which can be seen from the side, and the dress is lined in white silk organdy. A very young Mia Farrow look, we love this with Roger Vivier satin mary janes and a large baroque pearl dangling from a long chain at each earlobe. Bust measures 34" and it gradually flares out but we recommend your hips be no wider than 38". Ideally sized for a very healthy size 6 or a modern 8 who is not taller than 5'5" or 5'6". Excellent condition with the exception of several tiny stones missing from the buttons. $295.00
